Lord, Lead Me Not Into Temptation Today

A devotional reflection on prayer, watchfulness, and the strength God gives

Temptation is a struggle many believers know well. This devotional begins with the comfort of 1 Corinthians 10:13: no temptation is unique to us, and God is faithful to provide a way through it. Even when the battle feels strong, the Lord does not leave His people without help.

At the same time, the devotional reminds us that temptation is not caused by God, but often arises from the sinful desires within us. Drawing from James 1:13–15, it explains that we are lured by our own desires, and that unchecked desire leads to sin. This calls us to honesty before God about our weaknesses, so that we may seek His grace more intentionally.

The speaker then points us to practical spiritual disciplines. From Matthew 26:41, we are told to “watch and pray,” and from Proverbs 4 and Romans 6, we are reminded to avoid paths that lead us into sin and to present ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness. The devotional stresses that prayer must be joined with watchfulness, wise choices, and intentional living.

Another key theme is the importance of staying rooted in God’s Word. Quoting Psalm 119:11, Romans 12:2, and Galatians 5, the devotional teaches that Scripture renews the mind, builds inner strength, and helps believers walk in the Spirit rather than gratifying the desires of the flesh. Victory over temptation is not simply about escaping difficult situations, but about becoming inwardly stronger through prayer and the Word.

The devotional closes with a heartfelt prayer for deliverance, spiritual strength, and deeper obedience. It asks God to reveal both obvious sins and hidden compromises, to strengthen prayer life, and to help believers remain close to Him through His Word. Its final encouragement is simple and hopeful: as we draw nearer to God, He leads us farther from temptation and gives us strength to overcome.

Closing Prayer

Lord, keep us watchful and prayerful in the face of temptation. Strengthen us by Your Word, renew our minds, and help us walk in the Spirit each day. Teach us to turn from what weakens us and to depend fully on Your grace. Lead us in holiness, guard our hearts, and help us remain faithful to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
